Practice

Yes, we know practice makes perfect but what makes perfect practice? Your brain absorbs information more easily in small chunks so an hour a day will be much more effective than 7 hours one day a week. Also try not to work on too many different ideas in a short space of time. If you’re trying to cover six different thing during your hour-a-day you’ll find it much harder to see any progress than if just did two things. Finally and perhaps most importantly practice things slowly. Again your brain needs time to ‘program in’ the new moves you’re learning and practicing too quickly will simply brush any coordination issues you might have under the carpet. Also keeping a practice diary can also help keep you focused on what you need to work on as well as keeping a record of relevant tempos.
