Are taught in a professional, working studio environment with top of the range equipment provided by Mapex, Zildjian and Vic Firth including both left and right-handed setups. As a result real life playing situations such as studio sight-reading and session playing can be re-created enabling performances to be recorded and critiqued as well as gaining familiarisation with the recording process.

Lesson-3 Beat Licks

This was the first article I wrote for the current Technical Difficulties series and I was very proud when the then editor of Modern Drummer the late Ron Spagnardi was impressed with it enough to ask to re-print it in their magazine. The exercise itself looks at phrasing three beat ideas over the barline. All of the examples are shown played over two bars however you’ll hear them played over four on the accompanying audio.
